Guitar Tuition
One-to-one online guitar lessons over Zoom, for beginners and returning players. Learn to play at your own pace, in your own way, built around you rather than a syllabus.
Who it’s for
Whether you’ve never held a guitar, or you learned a few chords years ago and gave up, lessons are built around you. There’s no fixed syllabus to keep up with, no pressure, and no “wrong” way to be a learner.
Lessons suit:
- Complete beginners of any age
- Returning players who want to rebuild confidence
- Home-educated and EOTAS learners looking for a creative, practical subject
- Anyone who has found traditional lessons too rigid, too fast, or just not a good fit
What you’ll learn with guitar playing:
Getting started playing guitar
- Learning to hold the guitar and plectrum, tuning, and your first chords
- Strumming the guitar, rhythm and changing chords smoothly
- Reading chord charts and tab
- Preparation for grade exams (if you want to)
- Independent learning
Going further with learning guitar
- Playing the songs you want to play
- Improvising guitar
- Lead guitar, riffs and scales
- Acoustic, electric, or both
- Variation on chords for colour and access (some chords are difficult, learn how to achieve the sound for your own playing)
Something most lessons don’t include:
Alongside playing, you’ll learn how to look after your own instrument: changing strings properly, keeping it in tune, and recognising when something needs adjusting.
That knowledge comes from SUBF’s guitar technician training. The full technician course has taught more than 3,400 learners in 97 countries, and SUBF’s guitar repair programme was approved for referral by the DWP and Careers Wales. A guitar that’s set up properly is much easier to play, and that makes learning easier too.
How lessons work:
Lessons are one-to-one, live over Zoom, so you can learn from home wherever you are.
- 30 minutes: £25
- 60 minutes: £40
- Group sessions: additional 50% per learner
What you need:
- A guitar. Not sure which one to get? Ask before you buy, and we’ll help you avoid the common pitfalls
- A laptop, tablet or phone with Zoom
- A camera positioned so your guitar is visible
- Notepad and pen / pencil
- Tuner
Safeguarding:
All tuition is delivered by a qualified teacher who holds an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service. For learners under 18, a parent or guardian must be at home during online lessons.
